Meanwhile on April 10th it was published that there is an initiative to make the Hamad International Airport (HIA) to a “smart airport” and the phase of reviewing the program has began. This will allow passengers to “more control and independence during their trip”, where each step in the process will be in the form of self-service, such as home printing of baggage tags (HPBT) and baggage sending as well as boarding passes printing.

Currently there are 63 active electronic gates (e-gates) by the border controls for citizens and permanent residents, based in part on biometric authentication, alongside the use of smart technologies that exist in very some of airports around the world, for streamlining the process of security check by accelerating processes and reducing passenger discomfort. This is alongside various programs to deepen the streamlining of various processes for making automatic passenger experience even easier.
