UAE and Saudi Arabia deepening operations services via “e-government”

On January 5th it was reported that the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Makhtoum, and the Vice President of the UAE met with the CEO of Microsoft to discuss plans for the UAE in the field of “e-government” services, or “smart government”, as well as ideas for using the of best of new technologies to improve government performance and services.

This highlights Dubai’s inventive new plans which form part of the national innovation strategy, which includes 20 initiatives aimed at strengthening Dubai’s image as one of the world’s most innovative cities.

In this regard, it was announced on February 23rd that the 7th annual “e-government” conference will be held in Riyadh on 9th-10th May 2016. More than 150 government decision makers were expected to attend the conference, held under Saudi government auspices, for discussions on the future of “e-government” in the kingdom, as well as innovative solutions and services for current and future projects, mainly related to the drop in oil revenues.

The second national plan of Saudi Arabia in this field will end at the end of this year, and the third phase of the program is planned for implementation in the years 2017-2021.

It was also reported that the governmental sector in Saudi Arabia is expected to grow by 14.57% in 2016, while prioritizing information systems due to government investments in smart technologies, smart cities and online services, including cloud, big data analysis, cellular services and independent connected devices.
