A call of student organizations and academic figures in Chile, Brazil, Argentina and the United States to join the academic boycott of Israel
On April 27th it was reported that a referendum among a thousand students of the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile, 64% voted yes supporting the university to cut its ties with Israeli universities, 56% supported the call for prevention of activities at the faculty involving Israeli officials or Israeli-funded.
In addition, on January 20, it was reported that more than 200 intellectuals and researchers from various universities in Brazil, signed within three days an open letter calling for an academic boycott of Israel in which they affirm their “commitment to social justice and against all manifestations of racism” and called for a boycott campaign against Israeli academics within the terms offered by the BDS movement”. A similar petition was signed by 426 professors and students from 11 academic institutions in Argentina in November 2015.
Also noted that, on April 22nd, a decision was made by The Union for Graduate Employees at the New York University, which 66% of 645 members voted positively when asked if the organization should join the BDS movement. 58% answered yes to the question of private activity of “academic boycott on Israeli government and academic institutions which take part of the Palestinian rights violations”.
A week earlier, a similar announcement was made by the Doctoral Students Council (DSC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) concerning the adoption of a resolution calling for an academic boycott of Israel.
