Authorities in the UAE warn against recent Snapchat update
The Telecom Regulation Authority (TRA) in the United Arab Emirates released a warning against the new update of Snapchat, called Snap Map. The update allows users to see the location of their friends on a map and find reports from all over the world, while examining places where there is lively activity, through “heat maps”. However, users can define who is allowed to see their location.
According to the TRA, there is a risk that users might provide their location automatically, without knowing about that, which could compromise their privacy and even cause information about them to leak. The TRA recommended changing the application settings and determining that no other user be able to see your location on the application’s interactive map.
