Saudi Arabia youngsters are turning to telecom training and practice

The information technology and communication markets in the Middle East are growing fast, and investment in these areas should stand at approximately 213 billion, with an increase of 3.7% since 2015, including investments in areas such as the IoT and smart cities as generators of economic growth beyond the traditional reliance on oil.

As part of this process, a large increase in purchases of PCs and tablets in our region is expected, from 8 billion USD in 2016 to 10 billion USD in 2018 and increased sales of mobile phones is expect to grow from 30 USD billion in 2016 to 37 billion USD in 2019, alongside an increase in technological entrepreneurship which grew ten times in the GCC in four years.

These processes have an immediate impact on the labor market, the demand for manpower and proper training in this area in the Middle East including Saudi Arabia.

As early as March 15th, it was reported that about 33 thousand men and women throughout the kingdom filed within 24 hours for admission to training in the telecom industry, which are carried out in the governmental training entity “Technical and Vocational Training Corporation” operating under the Ministry of Labor. This is a basic course of 25 hours, followed by an advanced maintenance course of 180 hours.

The great demand then expressed itself in manpower available to work in the field; On April 24th it was reported that 2,403 young people are available to join the telecommunications sector, after completing their training at TVTC.

According to the CEO of TVTC, a great effort is made to place the young people in the telecom market sales and service of mobile phones. Training are conducted at technical colleges , and among the industry in various cities in the kingdom, while women can access the training in the branches of TVTC in Jeddah and Taif, which so far have trained about 330 women.

In this context, it was posted on April 25th that 70% of women in Saudi Arabia believe that the digital world allows them to work from home and therefore increased their employment opportunities, 90% are looking for work in this area, compared with 72% of men and have better ability of men. 68% of women agreed that the internet has an important role in the educational level compared to 44% in developing countries.

Today there are 527 young people in 28 training programs for the sales department and Customer Services, 833 youths have been trained in software sales management, customer service and foundations of cellular services. In addition, over the coming weeks 713 more will be trained in 34 different departments.

Indeed, on May 3rd it was reported that employment opportunities in the ICT sector posted by online means for the citizens of the kingdom, have increased by 24%, as part of government measures whereby to engage only citizens for this area.
