The Cyber Harassment Unit 2015 (MOCIBA) Mexico
The cyber threats is a subject that has been expanding all over the world and Mexico is not being left behind when we talk about researching this topic. Recently, The National Institute of Geography and Statistics (INEGI in Spanish) made for the first time The Cyber Harassment Unit 2015 (MOCIBA), which is a unit of the National Survey on the Availability and Use of ITC in Homes.
The survey had 10 questions relating to the knowledge that Mexicans have about the topic and its objective is generating statistic information that allows INEGI a first approximation to the cyber harassment phenomenon and its impact on citizens.
The institution INEGI thinks that nowadays communication technologies and information have an accelerated growth in the world and basically, all the modern life aspects depend on them.
These are the MOCIBA 2015 most relevant data:
- 24.5% of the citizens of 12 years or more have experienced cyber harassment, from which 52.1% are men and 47.9% are women.
- The three principal types of harassment are: receive a spam or virus (22.0%), receive callings (13.9%) and receive multimedia content (13.6%).
- The three principal stalker identities were: unknown, known and friend.
- The most important actions taken to solve the problem were: blocking the person (26.3%), ignoring the situation (26.3%) and changing or canceling the telephone number or account (13.9%)
