The UAE has been authorized to manage the domain name .arab
On March 27th, it was reported that after a seven-year process, the public authority for regulation of the communications sector (TRA) in the UAE has been certified by the Arab League in charge of domain names (.arab) and (.) On behalf of ICANN which is in charge of international domain names.
It has been argued that this project is of strategic importance in the technology sector and is forecast to increase significantly the number of websites and online services in Arabic, as well as allowing users to more Arab “approach to domain names representing the Arab identity”. It is estimated that domain names will be available to the public through authorized registrars towards the end of 2016.
It was reported that giving the task to the TRA is a result of its success in managing the domain name of UAE national (.ae), which has over 175 subscribers and success in managing the domain name (.) which can be considered one of the first non-Latin characters registration.
Indeed, in May 2010, it was published that the first non-Latin characters domain names were approved. The meaning was the ability to enter an address with the suffix مصر in Arabic (Egypt) for Egyptian sites, السعودية (Saudi Arabia) for Saudi sites and امارات (United Arab Emirates) for sites in the UAE.
