Turkey formulates a new strategy in the field of cyber security

On January 31st it was reported that the Turkish National Security Council (MGK) had issued a cyber security strategy. Council members decided on a new strategy based on two key components:

  • The protection of information systems
  • An immediate attack against possible threats

Council members stressed the need for the inclusion of all institutions and organizations in which there is a risk to information and critical infrastructure to the cyber security strategy, while recruiting “all public institutions and the private sector to take part in cyber security.”

As part of the new policy, there would be defined new criteria for those who apply to information processing units in public institutions, including security testing of the applicants and their expertise and credibility.

It was reported that recently it became clear that the information sector suffers from lack of manpower, experts and private companies in the area, this has to do with the fact that most of the country’s security, both foreign and domestic, are associated with the movement of Fathollha Gulen. This is why, in the near future there will be given incentives, including financial, to create and strengthen local products and increase the potential of human resources in the field.

It was also reported that in the coming days there will be established the cyber security committee headed by the Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications, who briefed the members of the Cyber Security Council.
